Trends in Oncology Massage – 8 CEU
This 8-hour class is part of an enrichment series designed to expand the participant’s current knowledge and understanding of Oncology Massage with today’s Oncology Client. Treatment and management of the Client with Cancer are evolving very quickly, as are the methods of investigation and study. The participant will explore and discuss the many advancements achieved by the Oncology Community as well as have the opportunity for hands-on experience with clients currently receiving treatment to manage a wide range of Cancer presentations. Introductory Oncology Massage training is recommended.
Learning Objectives
- The participant will accurately be able to identify the unique characteristics and needs of the Oncological client.
- The participant will review and understand recent updates in Cancer Theory, pathophysiology , and changes in the management of metastatic disease.
- The participant will explore and demonstrate understanding of evolution of the function of the different members of the oncology team as well as the family dynamics involved with the coordination of care of the oncology client.
- The participant will review and demonstrate basic understanding of the global effects of combination treatment using chemotherapy, radiation, surgery and the variety of targeted treatment options available to today’s Cancer patients.
- The participant will have a thorough understanding of both relative and absolute contraindications for adapted bodywork.
- The participant will know how and to whom they should refer to their clients should they not be able to provide service safely or effectively.
- The participant will outline and demonstrate an adapted massage session for the Oncological client, incorporating safe and effective adapted massage techniques, taking into consideration the unique as well as medically preferred concerns for this population.
- The Participant will explore pathways to advanced education as well as resources available to meet the Oncology Educational Community standard.
Trends in Lymphatic Mobilization – 8 CEU
This 8-hour class is part of an enrichment series designed to expand the participant’s current knowledge, understanding and practice of Lymphatic Mobilization with today’s Client experiencing edema/ fluid shifts. Treatment and management of the Client with Lymphatic compromise are evolving very quickly, as are the methods of investigation and study. The participants will explore and discuss the many advancements achieved by the Lymphatic Community as well as have the opportunity for hands-on experience with clients currently receiving treatment to manage a wide range of Lymphatic presentations. Introductory Lymphatic Mobilization/ Lymphatic Drainage Massage training is recommended.
1. The participant will understand normal lymphatic system function, as well as the etiology and pathological presentation of lymphatic insufficiency/failure, both primary and secondary.
2. The participant will understand how lymphatic insufficiency/failure impacts on the client with edema.
3. The participant will be able to accurately identify the client at risk while learning basic evaluation and treatment protocols for Mobilization.
4. The participant will be able to list contraindications and cautions with the application of safe Lymphatic Mobilization.
5. The participant will explore and discuss the many advancements achieved by the Lymphatic Community: Post Pandemic scientific findings, current diagnostic evaluation, recent advancement of manual therapy techniques now available to massage professionals.
6. The participant will review current populations benefiting from advance mobilization techniques including clients facing obesity with subsequent weight loss, surgical augmentation either cosmetic or medically deemed necessary, and a diagnosis of cancer.
7. The participant will understand which techniques fall within the therapists’ scope of practice and which require advanced education based on their current skill and educational level.
8. The participant will understand the important differences between Lymphatic Mobilization techniques, Lymphatic Drainage “Massage” and Manual Lymphatic Therapy Certification and will be able to ethically provide advanced mobilization techniques to their clients.
Using Stones in you Massage Practice – 8 CEU’s
This 8-hour class is part of an enrichment series designed to expand the participant’s application / use of stones as a stand-alone modality or adjuvant use during an existing massage session. They will have the opportunity for hands-on experience with clients, using a wide variety of stone options. These options include in addition to traditional basalt based heated stones, cold based stone options, methodologies surrounding hot vs cold application of stones, Bian Stonework and an exploration of the metaphysical use of stones to round out the experience. With an emphasis on safety, at the conclusion of this offering, the participant will gain yet another tool to utilize in their management of their massage clients’ varied needs. Introductory Hot Stone Massage training is recommended, but not necessary.
Learning Objectives
- The participant will explore the key elements of hot vs cold stone use in massage : heated basalt stones ( as well as other stone alternatives), strategic stone placement, specialized massage techniques, temperature variations between hot and cold stones, and therapeutic massage oils for ideal gliding.
- The participant will review and demonstrate strict adherence to current safe and judicious use of heat and cold using a wide variety of stone sources.
- The participant will demonstrate the importance of asking what is/are the primary reason(s) for seeking massage therapy and what are the unique goals for each client session requesting stonework.
- The participant will review and demonstrate understanding of the contraindications for using stones during the massage.
- The participant will review and demonstrate understanding of infection control guidelines, disinfection, transportation if providing home services and storage of their stones.
- The participant will have the opportunity to review and experience Bian Stonework.
- The participant will have the opportunity to explore the metaphysical nature of stonework, their effects regarding healing and use in an integrated model for wellness.
- The Participant will explore vetted pathways to advanced education as well as resources available to meet the ongoing desire of the public for alternative additions to bodywork.
